Methods for Determining Brake Pad Replacement:
1. Check Thickness: Each brake pad has a raised indicator on both sides. The thickness of this indicator is approximately 2 or 3 millimeters, which is also the limit for brake pad replacement. If the brake pad thickness is parallel to this indicator, it must be replaced. Therefore, when the brake pad thickness is close to this indicator, the car owner should be prepared to observe it, but it is difficult to observe accurately with the naked eye without removing the tire.
2. Listen to the Sound: If a "rubbery" sound accompanies slight braking, the brake pads must be replaced immediately. Since the limit marks on both sides of the brake pads are directly rubbing against the brake disc, it proves that the brake pads have exceeded the limit. In this case, the brake disc must be checked at the same time as replacing the brake pads. When this sound occurs, the brake disc is usually damaged. At this time, even if new brake pads are replaced, the sound cannot be eliminated. In severe cases, the brake disc needs to be replaced.
3. Feel the Intensity: If the brakes feel very hard, it may be that the brake pads have essentially lost their friction. At this time, they must be replaced, otherwise it will cause a serious accident. This method is relatively abstract and may be difficult to grasp by feel, so it is important to develop a good self-inspection habit. Furthermore, reduced braking effectiveness increases brake fluid consumption. Therefore, when replacing brake pads, the condition of the brake fluid should be checked carefully.
4. If the brakes are misaligned: Many drivers feel their car slightly deviates from its intended path while driving. They often assume a four-wheel alignment is needed. However, this should be carefully considered. If the vehicle is in a normal driving state and the misalignment only occurs when the brakes are applied again, the braking system should be inspected.
